Project Summary: St George’s School in Blackpool required urgent concrete repair and protective coating works to several areas of its building envelope that had suffered from weather-induced deterioration. The goal was to restore the structural integrity of the affected concrete surfaces and ensure long-term protection while maintaining the existing appearance of the building.
The project began with the safe setup of a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) to access all defective concrete areas on the building. Damaged and deteriorated concrete was carefully broken out to expose a sound substrate. Exposed reinforcement was treated with Sika Monotop®-1010, a corrosion protection and bonding primer, followed by the application of Sika Monotop®-615 to rebuild the concrete and restore the original profiles. Once repairs had cured, Sika® 552 W Aquaprimer was applied as a base coat to all surfaces due for protection. Finally, the area was finished with Sika® 550W Elastic, a high-performance decorative coating selected to match the existing building façade, ensuring a uniform and durable finish.
